Presentation Tips & Advice

A picture speaks a thousand words.... Be prepared for your presentation, gather some good quality images of interest or of work that you have done in the past.

Ideally pull all the information together with the use of a slide show, it avoids the need for a script, as each slide should prompt you on what you want to say. A slideshow will also keep an audience captive ! Here are a few points to help make your presentation go smoothly.

  • Prepare your presentation in advance, run through it a few times on your own and then in front of a small audience who can give a constructive critique.
  • Remember to fill out and bring your Biography Sheet.
  • If possible create a PowerPoint presentation slide show using bullet point text and a selection of good images.
  • Get to the venue early to allow yourself time to setup and iron out any glitches.
  • Speak slowly and clearly, it's amazing how quickly 10 minutes passes.
  • Avoid question and answers during the presentation, save them until the end.
  • Avoid reading from a script, this does not allow for good interaction and will make the presentation seem dull.
  • Keep eye contact, face your audience.
  • Avoid using technical language or acronyms.
  • If you lose your way through the presentation, don't panic. Re-cap on the last point if needed.
  • Remember your door prize !!!

Good Luck !
